Ramie
Ramie
As you know, I'm all about sustainability. Ramie is in the nettle family and is a renewable plant fiber that can be harvested between 2 and 6 times a year, depending on growing conditions. AND what really rocks is that it can have a useful crop life of up to 20 years. I call that uber eco-friendly!
It's so soft and strong, and has a sheen similar to silk. It's a beautiful effect fiber in felting, and has similar spinning characteristics to tussah silk. Also great for doll hair.
Roving sold in 1 oz increments.
Eco-Friendly: Dye is certified under the Oeko-Tex 100 quality system for non-toxicity, which means it's safe for the whole family.
Meets Global Organic Textile Standards (GOTS)
*Please keep in mind that colors may vary, depending on your monitor or mobile device. I do my best to represent colors as accurately as possible by using color calibration software. Even so, there still could be a variation.
TIP: Ramie will not wet felt on its own, but does incorporate well into wet felted projects. I recommend going slowly and using room temperature water in the beginning. If your water is too warm, the wool will felt too fast and not have enough time to grab onto the ramie fibers. Treat it just as you would fabric in nuno felting.
